Communicable Disease Response

Our Centre continues to take the COVID-19 situation seriously. Our Reactivation has been gradual and includes ongoing monitoring aligned with the comfort of our team members & the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Staying Safe, Together

‘Normal’ might not look very normal these days. However, perhaps the little things like a visit to see your favourite Salish Sea critter might make your day feel a little less strange. We ask you to work together with us to keep our Centre a safe space for yourself, other visitors, staff and dedicated volunteers.

What we’re doing to keep you safe:

  • Reduce our visitor numbers to encourage physical distancing

  • Increasing cleaning and disinfecting throughout our facility

  • Providing access to hand sanitizer and hand washing facilities

  • Discouraging eating

What we’re asking of our visitors:

  • Stay home if you are not feeling well

  • Practice good hygiene; this includes washing your hands, for at least 20 seconds, not touching your face, and coughing or sneezing into your elbow

  • Limit your group size to ten (10); keep your family unit together when walking through the Centre including children within reach at all times

  • Please be patient; practice physical distancing guidelines, keep 2 metres away from others and wait your turn

  • To remain contact-free, we are not issuing admission hand-stamps, so keep your receipt for re-admission

What hasn’t changed for your visit:

  • A moment with calming drifting jellies

  • A peek at invertebrates of all shapes and colours

  • A look at fish—large, small, long, flat, camouflage and colourful

  • A chance to stand aside giant whales skulls and bones

  • An opportunity to experience a feature exhibition in our Legacy Gallery

  • A host of friendly faces excited to share their knowledge
