Coral reefs, climate change and the role of herbivorous fish
Jenny Smith, a student in the Biology department at the University of
Victoria and a Naturalist Interpreter at the Centre, will present about
her Master’s project in tropical coral reef ecology. Her presentation will
take you out of the Salish Sea Bioregion and into the tropics, landing on
Kiritimati Island, in the remote equatorial Pacific Ocean, where the
fieldwork for this project takes place. She will talk about Kiritimati
Island’s coral reefs, how they’re doing under the current climate, and
what role herbivorous fish might play in enhancing the resilience of coral
reefs from climate change stress.
Adult learners and seniors are invited to this monthly talk and tea.
